Auburn Township is a township in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,816 at the 2000 census.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 50.8 square miles (132 km2), of which, 50.6 square miles (131 km2) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.78 km2) of it (0.55%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 1,816 people, 681 households, and 529 families residing in the township. The population density was 35.9 people per square mile (13.9/km²). There were 866 housing units at an average density of 17.1/sq mi (6.6/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 98.79% White, 0.28% African American, 0.06% Asian, 0.06% from other races, and 0.83% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.28% of the population.

There were 681 households out of which 35.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.9% were married couples living together, 6.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.2% were non-families. 18.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.66 and the average family size was 3.01.

In the township the population was spread out with 26.0% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 27.1% from 45 to 64, and 12.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 108.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 104.1 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $35,329, and the median income for a family was $38,664. Males had a median income of $29,519 versus $19,375 for females. The per capita income for the township was $15,785. About 9.6% of families and 11.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 12.7% of those under age 18 and 13.3% of those age 65 or over.
